ALYSSA GOARD

REPORTER

I’m a Junior at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington double majoring in Politics and Rhetoric/Media Studies.  I come from Pleasanton, California in the East San Francisco Bay Area. I am heavily connected to my Bay Area roots and find that I have been shaped by the sunshine, opportunities, and diverse, multi-cultural bustle in my city by the bay. I am deeply fascinated with politics and communications, and I have dabbled in professional opportunities in both politics and journalism during my college experience. Last summer, I interned with ABC7 News in San Francisco and this spring I am continuing my exploration of the media landscape today with a Journalism and New Media program in Washington, D.C. at American University’s Washington Semester.

In my spare time I enjoy endurance athletics, singing in an a capella group, writing poetry, working as a flight attendant, and having thoughtful conversations. I am extremely humbled to have this chance to work with the NewsHourU students and faculty, and have sincerely grown thanks to the teamwork we achieved with the inaugblog.
